Three-year
Undergraduate Degree
Along with the study
of technique and the most significant repertoire (solo, chamber music, and
orchestral ensembles) courses in ensemble music for voice and ancient
instruments, and the theory and practice of figured bass are required. Further studies include improvisation,
methods and repertoire of the organ and ancient keyboards, composition, history
and technology of the instrument, the study of treatises on methods, and
conducting of vocal and instrumental ensembles.
Courses in acoustics, information technology for music, expressive techniques and body
awareness and the study of a European language are also required.
The degree program trains students for
employment as soloists, in chamber music groups, in chamber orchestras,
symphony orchestras, and orchestras for musical theater/opera, and as coaches
for singers of the repertoire.

Two–year Masters Program
Along with the study of repertoire
and technique, two more courses per year are requirements: vocal and instrumental chamber music,
clavichord, organology, fortepiano (for harpsichordists) and viola consort (for
violists).
Additional courses offered during
the first year include ancient music styles, Gregorian Chant, rhetorical
analysis, communication
techniques and music management, show business law and legislation, figured
bass practices, vocal and instrumental conducting, and vocal technique for
instrumentalists. Laboratories in Renaissance and Baroque Dance, tuning and
tempering, improvisation and composition, and bibliography and library science
are also offered.
The Conservatory possesses three instruments,
two mechanical and one electric, which are available to students.

There is one
harpsichord class and one viola da gamba class at the Luca Marenzio
Conservatory, in which students from the pre-baccalaureate, undergraduate and
Masters program take part. However, the Conservatory boasts a faculty with a wide
range of repertoire and experience who are able to meet the specific needs of
each individual student.

Pre-baccalaureate Course
A program for those who do not yet possess the
pre-requisites necessary for an Undergraduate University Degree Program or a
Masters Program and desire to prepare themselves for admission to the
Undergraduate Degree Program.
The length of the program varies, according to
the individual needs of each student.
Students will be admitted to the course based
on the results of an aptitude test, or an audition.

Three-year
Undergraduate Degree
Courses common to the
curriculum of all wind instruments are:
music theory and analysis, ear training, music history, piano, and
choral music. Along with the study of
the theory and the repertoire of one’s instrument, chamber music, ensemble
music for winds, and orchestral formation.
Further studies include literature, history and technology of the
instrument, conducting wind instrument orchestras, and the study of forms,
systems, the language and the history of music, show business law and
legislation, and the repertoire of another instrument of the family. Courses in acoustics, information technology for music,
expressive techniques and body awareness and the study of a European language
are also required.
The degree program trains students for
employment as soloists, in chamber music groups, in chamber orchestras,
symphony orchestras, orchestras for musical theater/opera, and wind ensembles.

Two-year Masters Program
Trumpet
Study of trumpet technique, repertoire, vocal
and instrumental ensemble and chamber music, wind ensembles
Trombone
Study of
trombone technique, repertoire, vocal and instrumental ensemble and chamber
music, wind ensembles.
Horn
(or Ancient Horn)
Four
subjects are required in the first year, after students have chosen between
horn and ancient horn: technique and
repertoire, a second instrument from the horn family (natural-French horn,
Romantic horn, tenor, bass or Wagner tuba), ancient horn (classical or
baroque), second instrument from the ancient horn family (classical or baroque
natural horn, two or three-valve Romantic horn), history and analysis of
didactic methods for the horn (obligatory for both programs), and history and
technology of the horn (obligatory for both programs). There are three
obligatory courses the second year (having chosen between horn and ancient
horn): technique and repertoire, a second instrument from the horn family
(natural-French horn, Romantic horn, tenor, bass or Wagner tuba), ancient horn II
(classical or baroque), second instrument from the ancient horn family II(classical
or baroque natural horn, two or three-valve Romantic horn), and history and

Choral Music and
Conducting
Pre-baccalaureate Course .

Masters Program.

Along with the necessary basics of harmony,
choral conducting and vocal technique, piano and organ accompaniment are
fundamental to the preparation of future choral conductors.

It should be underlined that great importance is given to the acquisition of a
thorough preparation for the study of vocal practices, choral conducting and
the accompaniment of choral groups at the piano or the organ.
Three-year
Undergraduate Degree
Requirements
of the course include the following theoretical/analytical/practical
disciplines: theory, rhythm and
perception of music, history of music and of poetry for music, and choral
rehearsing. Although basics, these courses take on a special significance for
choral conductors, in particular poetry for music and choral rehearsing.
Courses
specific to the discipline include choral composition, choral conducting and
score reading. Choral conducting is
studied for the three years, and the other subjects for two.
Additional
courses are dedicated to the acquisition of a profound knowledge of the voice
and vocal techniques, and the use of the voice in the various styles and
repertoires.
Other
disciplines include subjects pertinent to modern music studies: acoustics,
computer techniques, and body awareness (particularly important for the choral
conductor’s capacity to express and to inspire expressiveness in choral
singers.)
Students
are encouraged to choose electives which are most practically applicable
towards present and future career choices (liturgical, folk, ancient,
contemporary music, musical theater, and operatic-symphonic repertoire).
The
three-year undergraduate program prepares students for possible careers as
conductors of choirs, chorales, chamber music groups symphonic vocal groups,

Two –year Masters Program
Basics of the course are dedicated to the
acquisition of a profound musical culture, with particular emphasis on musical
theater.
Courses specific to the discipline are
pertinent to the preparation of the future conductor or composer of choral
music for a professional career and include repertoires which require the
participation of single or numerous instrumentalists or vocalists. Participants
may also explore new sectors such as multi-media.
Students are encouraged to choose electives
which are most practically applicable towards present and future career
choices; possibilities range from Gregorian chant to ancient music, from
musical theater to the use of texts in choral composition, from ethnomusicology
to music management.
The Masters Program prepares students for
careers as Choral Conductors in Musical Theater or for Multi-media Productions,

The Masters Program is dedicated to
the formation of professional musicians with a wide range of skills in all of
the various areas of the music field, from composition to the use of new
technologies applied to music. Today’s cultural panorama requires standards of
higher education which prepare musicians for the new marketplace; they must be
highly specialized, and versatile at the same time in order to function in
today’s ever-changing musical world.

Ancient Organ curriculum includes courses in Ancient Organ techniques.
Additional courses include
organology, Gregorian Chant, communication techniques and music management, show business law and
legislation, figured bass practices, architecture, iconography, and history of
the art of the period. Laboratories in
tempering and tuning, ancient notation, transcription, improvisation and
composition for the harpsichord/organ, and cataloging of historic organs are

Two-year
Masters Degree
Along with the study of the piano repertoire,
each year students are required to attend two more courses: ensemble and chamber
music (vocal and instrumental), and Piano-Orchestral Repertoire (or the
repertoire for four hands/two pianos). Students must choose two more courses as well each year,
the first from contemporary music, communication techniques and music
management, show business law and legislation, figured bass techniques and
orchestra laboratory I, improvisation and composition I, and body awareness
techniques; the second from organ, transcription and elaboration techniques,
figured bass techniques and orchestra laboratory II, improvisation and
composition II, and music library studies.

There are at present 19 Piano classes (approximately
120-130 students) at the Luca Marenzio Conservatory – students from all of the
above-mentioned courses participate. Given
the number of professors and the diversity of their experience and professional
backgrounds, the Conservatory is able to meet the needs of students interested
in all types of repertoire and to develop personalized study plans.

Three-year Undergraduate
Degree
This degree represents a new form
of musical studies in Italy,
within the context of higher education, characterized by mastery of methods,
disciplines, and cultural awareness, which conforms to European Standards, and is
designed to prepare students for professional careers. The Undergraduate Degree
is a necessary prerequisite for admission to the Masters Program. Some of the elective courses which are part
of the undergraduate program curriculum should be chosen if the student desires
to pursue a Masters Degree.
The fundamentals of the Strings program include
music theory and analysis, ear training, analysis of compositional forms, music
history, piano, and choral music. Along
with the study of one’s individual instrument and its repertoire, chamber
music, orchestral music, string quartets, and ensemble music for string are
also part of the curriculum. Further studies include advanced piano, orchestra
formations, history and technology of the instrument, techniques of
contemporary repertoire, orchestral styles and techniques, music history, and history
of the construction of string instruments.

Two-year Masters Program
The objective of the Masters
Program is to prepare musicians for careers as professionals through intensive
and comprehensive training in all fields of technique, interpretation,
composition, and the use of new technologies as applied to music. Today’s Italian and International cultural
panorama require highly qualified multi-talented musicians who are competent in
all sectors of interpretation, composition, and the use of new technologies as
applied to music.
Obligatory courses include: Study of the
technique and repertoire of one’s instrument, chamber music, ensemble music for
strings. The student may also choose additional courses from: theory and
practice of the double-bass, chamber music techniques and repertoire, didactics
of the instrument, communication techniques and music management, history of
ancient and contemporary music, and Laboratories in orchestral formation,

the individual needs of each student.
Students will be admitted to the course based
on the results of an aptitude test, or an audition.

Three-year
Undergraduate Degree
Courses common to the
curriculum of all wind instruments are:
music theory and analysis, ear training, music history, piano, and
choral music. Along with the study of
the theory and the repertoire of one’s instrument, chamber music, ensemble
music for winds, and orchestral formation.
Further studies include literature, history and technology of the
instrument, conducting wind instrument orchestras, and the study of forms,
systems, and the language and the history of music. Courses in acoustics, information technology for music,
expressive techniques and body awareness and the study of a European language
are also required.
The degree program trains students for
employment as soloists, in chamber music groups, in chamber orchestras,
symphony orchestras, orchestras for musical theater/opera, and wind ensembles.

Two-year Masters Program
Flute
Study of flute technique, repertoire, vocal and
instrumental ensemble and chamber music, wind ensembles
Clarinet
Study of
clarinet technique and repertoire, ensemble and chamber music. The student must choose a course of study:
performance, contemporary music practices, music education, or history of the
instrument and its repertoire.
Saxophone
Study of saxophone technique and repertoire,
ensemble and chamber music. The student
must choose a course of study: performance, contemporary music practices, music
education, accompanying, or history of the instrument and its repertoire.
Oboe
Study of oboe technique and repertoire,
ensemble and chamber music. The student
must choose a course of study:
Improvisation techniques, oboe technique and repertoire, orchestral and solo
repertoire for oboe d’amore.
Bassoon
Study of bassoon technique and repertoire,

One-year
Specialization Course
Along with the study of instrumental techniques
and repertoire, students are free to attend all courses and Labs offered in the
Degree Programs. They will not
participate in exams, but will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.
